Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing the company's financial operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role where the Controller will not only supervise a small team but will also be deeply involved in the day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, experience with QuickBooks Desktop, and possess excellent organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Prepare and present accurate financial statements, reports, and analysis for management and stakeholders.
Accounting Oversight: Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Job Costing: Manage job costing processes and ensure all project costs are accurately tracked and recorded.
Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and project-related financials.
Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage preparation of tax returns, sales tax filings, and other related filings.
Team Leadership: Supervise two direct reports, providing mentorship and guidance while remaining hands-on with the daily accounting tasks.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, streamline accounting practices, and implement best practices within the department.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making related to projects, budgets, and forecasts.
Audit Preparation: Prepare and support the company's audit processes, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
Qualifications:
Experience: At least 5-7 years of accounting experience, with a significant portion in the construction industry.
Software Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is required; familiarity with other accounting software is a plus.
Leadership: Previous experience managing a small team or working in a supervisory role is required, with a willingness to be hands-on.
Skills:
Strong understanding of construction accounting, including job costing, progress billing, and financial management of construction projects.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
Professional demeanor with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Additional: CPA or CMA certifications are a plus but not required.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $120,000 - $145,000 per year, depending on experience.
