Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing the company's financial operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role where the Controller will not only supervise a small team but will also be deeply involved in the day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, experience with QuickBooks Desktop, and possess excellent organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present accurate financial statements, reports, and analysis for management and stakeholders.

  • Accounting Oversight: Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.

  • Job Costing: Manage job costing processes and ensure all project costs are accurately tracked and recorded.

  • Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and project-related financials.

  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage preparation of tax returns, sales tax filings, and other related filings.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise two direct reports, providing mentorship and guidance while remaining hands-on with the daily accounting tasks.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, streamline accounting practices, and implement best practices within the department.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making related to projects, budgets, and forecasts.

  • Audit Preparation: Prepare and support the company's audit processes, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 5-7 years of accounting experience, with a significant portion in the construction industry.

  • Software Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is required; familiarity with other accounting software is a plus.

  • Leadership: Previous experience managing a small team or working in a supervisory role is required, with a willingness to be hands-on.

  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of construction accounting, including job costing, progress billing, and financial management of construction projects.

    • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.

    • Professional demeanor with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Additional: CPA or CMA certifications are a plus but not required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $120,000 - $145,000 per year, depending on experience.
